Historic Hawley Anchor Building Becomes The Hawley Hub

Calling all dreamers, makers, movers, shakers and self-recreators, an innovative new project is taking place in Downtown Hawley. The Hawley Hub reclaims the old Murray building on Main Avenue, as a multi-purpose space for the community with emphasis on the arts and self-enrichment. A multi-phased project, the Hawley Hub is first opening their upstairs space, The Eddy Studio, for yoga, dance, theater, art and fitness classes beginning July 6th.  Among a few of the existing classes are Broadway Workouts where participants dance for fitness and learn Broadway moves to a new show tune every class, as well as Scene Study Classes for Actors, Intro to Theatre for Kids, All-Levels-Yoga and more! Classes are still forming, and instructors are wanted. To learn about upcoming classes and get more information, visit www.thehawleyhub.com.

The Murray building has long stood as a historical anchor structure in Hawley since the early 1900’s, and new owners Justin and Alison Hoffmann are thrilled to restore this Hawley treasure. The building was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Hoffmann, after listening to various community members and local stakeholders regarding what would benefit the community.

“We believe in our hometown. The purchase of this building isn’t just an investment in the community, but also generations to come,” says Alison Hoffmann. “Among our priorities is to create a space for connecting the youth to our community at large,” adds Justin Hoffmann. The couple has added local residents Jill Carletti and Sarah Clauss to the team at The Hawley Hub. Both women attended Wallenpaupack Area School District with Alison and Justin Hoffmann, have extensive experience in organizing community events, and sit together on The Downtown Hawley Partnership board.

“The Hawley Hub celebrates our roots and history through the creation of The Eddy Studio, which we named in honor of the Paupack Eddy and because the creative process, like an eddy of a river, moves against the current. All of our work, including the restoration of the historic Murray building, and our desire to create a space for youth to integrate with the larger community is tied together by an appreciation and connection to our past,” says Jill Carletti.

“As a group, all of us feel very thankful for the opportunities our hometown community has given us, and we’re thrilled to give back, make a difference, and do what we love,” adds Sarah Clauss.

The Hawley Hub will continually evolve, and more information will be released in the coming months pertaining to use of The Eddy Studio, The Hawley Hub’s larger community space and storefronts.
